Charlotte König

MSc student & student assistant, 2023-2024

I wrote my masters thesis on population structure and genetic sex determination in wild seadragons. Before that I looked at mitochondrial genomes, specifically the COI barcode,  in the Syngnathiformes to validate species identifications.

Snorkeling at Amager Strand

Here we went snorkeling for pipefish at Amager Strand. Along the pier you can find the broad-nosed pipefish (Syngnathus typhle) and the straightnose pipefish (Nerophis ophidion). The youngest lab member is hiding in Josefin's "brood pouch" and was born later that year.

Our trip to Helsingør

In Helsingør we went to visit the Øresund Aquarium, which showcases the marine life found in the Ørseund here in Denmark. The Øresund is home to several groups of Syngnathiformes which you can see in the Aquarium, such as pipefishes and goatfishes. Afterwards we went to the beach to snorkel and find some wild pipefish! A photo on the pipefish bench outside the Aquarium was also a must.
